The Smithsonian
I’m at the Smithsonian, where my work focuses on audience and civic engagement, staff learning and culture, and Gen Z participation. I founded the Staff Learning Series, which brings thought leaders from fields like data science and design into conversation with Smithsonian staff, and I received the Smithsonian Education Achievement Award for it in 2025. I’m also the National Programming Chair for Made By Us and the Mid-Atlantic Regional Lead for Civic Season, initiatives that connect museums around civic engagement.
Writing and Speaking
I write regularly about museums, culture, and audience engagement. Lately I’ve been exploring how museums should approach AI. I co-authored a piece on the Museum AI Pledge, making the case for keeping human expertise at the center as institutions begin integrating AI into their work. I’ve also been writing about how museums can learn from playgrounds and what it means to celebrate being last instead of always chasing firsts.
International Work
Beyond the Smithsonian, I serve on the steering committee of the International Audience Engagement Network, housed at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, and on the CoMuseum International Advisory Board in Athens. These roles keep me connected to how museums around the world are thinking about engagement and civic life.
Life in D.C.
I’m based in Washington, D.C., where I’m continually inspired by the many ways museums serve their communities. When I’m not working, I’m usually exploring the city with my family.
